Opportunities

A great way to advance your writing is to apply for the many competitions, awards and residencies offered in the NT and interstate.

There are a huge amount of opportunities available for writers, ranging from local competitions to national and international residencies. While our newsletter is the best place to stay in the know about upcoming opportunities, we have compiled a list of regular opportunities for NT writers:

Join a Writers’ Group

There are many writers’ groups and gatherings on offer across the NT for you to practice skills and share your work.

Writers’ groups can be a wonderful opportunity to share your work in progress, learn new skills and become part of a writing community.

Chief Minister’s NT Book Award 

Started by the NT Writers’ Centre in 2009, and originally called Territory Read, the Chief Minister’s NT Book Awards have celebrated excellence amongst published authors residing in the NT for over a decade. 

The awards are held biennially and will take place again in 2024 to honour books published by NT authors in 2022 and 2023. Check back here or follow our socials to find out when entries will be opening.
