What to expect
NT Writers’ Centre provides a manuscript assessment service for members wishing to develop and improve a piece of writing.
A manuscript assessment is an invaluable source of feedback on the structure, content, style and commercial prospects of a work, especially if you plan on publishing.
Although an assessment will (where appropriate) contain advice on editing, it is different to copy editing or proofreading, which looks in detail at the accuracy of things like spelling, grammar and punctuation.
A manuscript assessment aims to look at the bigger picture and will include advice on things like plot, character, point-of-view, pace, writing style, narrative, dialogue, presentation, length, use of research, readership, marketing or publishing possibilities.
Submissions should be 1.5 line spaced. Please include, (in the same document/file) your manuscript, a title page, short synopsis (300 words or less), a market position statement (200 words or less) and a writers bio (200 words or less) To ensure the objectivity of the assessment, the author's name should not appear on the manuscript itself.
An assessment is quoted on word count and will likely cost you between $200-500. Every manuscript is unique. For a quote, please submit below. The NT Writers’ Centre will help you access the right assessor for your work.
